Historical Uses:
Meadowsweet has been used in traditional medicine as a natural "aspirin" to treat rheumatism and arthritis.1 A chemical compound, derived from this plant in the 19th century, is used in the manufacturing of modern aspirin. Meadowsweet has been also employed to help relieve pain and to treat flatulent colic, respiratory problems, gout, water retention, fever and painful urination.2 It is also considered useful in relieving hyperacidity and heartburn. 1

Contraindications:
None.

Adverse reactions:
Avoid excessive consumption as it may cause constipation.

Dosage:
40 to 80 drops after each meal and as needed. Externally, apply liberally to affected areas, as needed.
