Historical Uses:
The fragrant underground portion (rhizome) has been used in traditional medicine since biblical times in the treatment of digestive disorders, flatulent colic, cough, gout, rheumatism and as a sedative in cases of nervous headache.

Externally, it has been applied on frostbite.

Contraindications:
None.
Adverse reactions:
Potentially toxic.
Dosage:
10 to 20 drops with each meal. Use with a good bowel management program. Externally, cover frostbite with Sweet Root extract and alternate warm, hot and cool cloths until circulation returns.
