Historical Uses:
Passion Flower was discovered in 1569 by Spanish explorers and it has been used since in traditional medicine as a sedative to treat nervous tension, anxiety, hysteria, insomnia and hyperactivity especially in children.1 It has also served in cases of sciatica, delirium tremens in alcoholics, nerve spasms, convulsions and nervous disorders caused by menopause.2 Externally and internally, it has also been employed in the treatment of headaches caused by stiff neck or cold.2 Externally, it has been applied to infected dermatitis and to aching tooth cavities.2

Contraindications:
None.

Adverse reactions:
Avoid excessive consumption.

Dosage:
30 to 40 drops after meals. For aching tooth cavities, apply a cotton soaked with the extract.
