Historical Uses:
In Roman times, soldiers would carry Vervain stems in case of injuries. It was also used in preparation of love elixirs. Vervain has mainly been used in the treatment of nervous conditions such as hysteria and depression.

Vervain has also been used to treat jaundice and biliary tract disorders.

Vervain is a well known diuretic, which accounts for its use in the treatment of kidney affections.

Externally, it has been applied on the skin to treat dermal eruptions.

It has been used externally and internally to treat poison ivy.

Contraindications:
Vervain should be avoided during pregnancy and in cases of heart insufficiency.

Adverse reactions:
Excessive consumption may cause vomiting and diarrhea.

Dosage:
10 to 40 drops three to four times per day on the tongue. Externally, apply locally on skin as needed.
