Historical Uses:
According to legend, Angelica was revealed to humans by an angel as a cure for plague, hence its name.1 Angelica has mainly been used in the treatment of indigestion and flatulent colic.2 It is known to stimulate the appetite and is particularly useful in cases of anorexia nervosa.2 Angelica is also used for the treatment of cystitis and urinary inflammations.2 Its action resembles that of Valerian as it decreases muscular tension and exhibits a mild sedative action.2 It has been used to treat neurotic children.2

Contraindications:
Angelica should be avoided during early pregnancy. Avoid in cases of acute gastritis or peptic ulcers. Sensitive individuals should avoid direct exposure to sunlight when using this plant.

Adverse reactions:
Avoid excessive consumption.

Dosage:
5 to 40 drops each meal or as needed.
