MOT DE LA PRÉSIDENTE

Summertime is a season when the supermarkets are packed with fresh fruits and vegetables. Their wide varieties are quite affordable. Food is so readily available in Canada, that one would not suspect that malnutrition prevails in our country.

However, food may be easily available but not necessarily nutritious. Our country is faced with a nutritional problem: obesity. This problem affects a younger population than before. In 15 years, Canadian children have doubled their excess body weight. This situation could lead to serious health consequences. Several factors such as poor nutrition including fast food, food advertisement, lack of exercise are related to childhood obesity. Read all about it in “What's new?”.

Most of us dress more lightly in the summer heat without any problems. But for someone who suffers from psoriasis, it can be a real problem. Uncovering their lesions means that everyone can see those ugly scales. Some are curious, others are disgusted while some are afraid that it may be contagious. They often feel ashamed, or shy about their condition. This causes them to retreat from the public, hide from others or hide those ugly lesions; depriving themselves of the so beneficial sun exposure.

Psoriasis is rarely healed. However, it is possible to improve someone's infliction. Look for a global approach to this problem using naturopathy and nutrition in "My reference".

May all of you enjoy this magazine and have a wonderful summer.
